Newborn Session Guidelines
Please follow this guide to ensure the best possible session!

Congratulations on your new baby! Thank you so much for allowing us the amazing and rewarding job of photographing your new little one in his/her first few days of life. Below are a few tips to prepare for your session.
When to photograph:
Newborn sessions are best booked within the baby’s first 14-16 days of life. This is to ensure the baby is sleepy and flexible for all of the cute poses they will be photographed in. We can tentatively book a session, but we understand that sometimes your little precious newborn wants to make an earlier or later entrance into this world. We will be able to re-schedule your session at that time.

Newborn sessions are booked for up to 2 hours of time. If during that time your little one needs a feeding, then you are more then welcome to relax and feed them. We want to ensure that we capture all those special moments. Our newborn sessions are in a smaller, quaint room with a heater on and a heating blanket. We want to keep baby as comfortable as possible.

Things to do:
1. The studio is a cozy space, so please limit your adult guests to one. Please arrange a way for any older siblings to leave the studio after they are done being photographed if we are doing sibling shots.

2. Plan on anywhere from 1-2 hours for your newborn session. We are on your little one's schedule. This leaves room for changing, feeding, and soothing breaks! You're also welcome to just sit back, relax, watch me work, or take a nap on the couch!

3. I know this may be difficult, but if you could keep your little one up for a bit before the session that would be so great! Maybe just a couple of hours, then your little one will really be ready to snooze! As a mom I know this can be a lot to ask, but it does help tremendously for the session. Stimulating baby with a warm bath before the session usually does the trick!

4. Dress baby in loose fitting clothes to avoid any lines on baby’s skin and to also avoid disturbing baby when getting undressed. A simple sleeper is best. Please avoid onesies or anything that has to be pulled off over baby’s head. Loosen diaper tabs prior to the session.

5. Feed your little one right before you leave for the session. He or she may also need another "top off" once you get here to get fully settled into a deep sleep. If you are breastfeeding that is fabulous, a pumped bottle of breast milk can be a great help so I can assist with feedings allowing you to keep your feet up but also ensure your little one is getting that full meal.

6. If nursing, try to avoid eating anything spicy or anything that will cause gas and might upset baby’s tummy for at least 24 hours preceding your scheduled session. A gassy baby will not pose well during the session due to their little tummy being upset.

7. Bring a pacifier if possible – they can be very helpful during the session! (Yes, even if they normally don't take one) Please know a pacifier is really a huge help. If you don’t plan to use it in the future, I totally understand, however it is helpful during this transition time. I encourage you to bring one as you can throw it away after our session if you don’t plan to use it moving forward.

8. Dress in layers you can take off or in thin clothing. Babies are most comfortable in a nice warm space. I have a space heater but the most successful shoots are when the studio is nice and warm. If we're not sweating, baby is probably not warm enough. This makes a HUGE difference, trust me!
Things to know:

Nakie Baby: Your newborn will be photographed in his/her birthday suit for the majority of the session, but I pay careful attention to ensure private parts are not exposed in any photos.

Don't Fret: Baby's cry, poop, pee, spit up and lots of other fun things. I am used to it! Trust that I will hand baby over if they are truly upset, and know that I will trust your parental instincts too! Do not worry about my blankets or backdrops involved in messy accidents. (honestly, let them get it out and they sleep much better!) All my blankets and props are washed after each session.

Poses: Please keep in mind that not all babies will cooperate or do all the different poses. The safety and comfort of your baby will always be my top priority. Some babies may fuss and cry while they are being posed just because they don't want to be messed with and this is normal. Trust in me that I will attempt what you want me to but if I feel like it's not going to happen, I will let you know and we will move on.
